The program featured reflections and words of encouragement from student team speakers Makenna Hetrick and Landon Lang, as well as Charly Algan and Quincy McIntosh, who shared memories from their junior high years and offered advice as their classmates prepare for the opportunities ahead.

Students also heard from Saugerties High School Valedictorian Emma French and Principal’s Award recipient Christopher Stokes. Emma encouraged students to remember that there is more than one path to success and confidence, and that Saugerties High School offers many opportunities to explore interests and discover what works best for each individual. Christopher spoke about the importance of following your passions and, once you discover them, challenging yourself and giving your best effort. He reminded students to stop at nothing in pursuit of their goals and to view obstacles not as roadblocks, but as opportunities to keep moving forward.

Junior High Principal Ginger Vail recognized student achievement during the ceremony and announced the five recipients of SUNY Ulster’s President’s Challenge Scholarship. The scholarship supports first-generation college-bound students through mentoring and college readiness programs beginning in Grade 8 and provides recipients with two years of tuition-free study at SUNY Ulster following high school graduation.
